Today we went to one of the trip highlights: Harry Potter Studio Tour. If you were thinking, "I've read all the books and seen all the movies, I don't need to go there," you are wrong. It was so much fun. To get there we took the Underground to a train station to a shuttle that finally took us to the WB studio. First we watched a short intro video from Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint about all the behind-the-scenes magic (pun fully intended) of all eight Harry Potter films.
Next the screen disappeared to show the entrance to the Great Hall where many memorable scenes take place. There were props, costumes and obviously many photo ops. We continued to the next area where there were sets like Dumbledore's office, Gryffindor common room, Hagrid's hut and Potions class. All the sets were roped off and props were in glass boxes. Adam tried to take photo of the Horcruxes from the top of the glass box and an alarm went off! That changed any ideas I was forming about how to get into Umbridge's super pink office.
Number 4 Privet Drive!
We took a stroll down Diagon Alley. It felt like we were truly first year wizards. Very exciting.
We also learned a lot about the "creatures" of Harry Potter and all the artwork, technology and truly amazing craftiness that went into making the maaany creatures in Harry Potter's world. Then there were lots of scale models and drawings of scenes for the movie and, best of all, a model of Hogwarts! It was used for the sweeping/zooming scenes of Hogwarts exterior. It was extremely impressive and Shannon posed for about twenty pictures with it.
Since it was a long journey back, we all took a nice rest afterwards. Adam and I went out to dinner later at a pub a few blocks from the apartment called Crown and Goose. It was very good but the deep fryer was broken so I couldn't get the fish and chips I intended. But it was great food and very traditional pub atmosphere so we were satisfied.
We all can't believe that tomorrow will be our last day in London, but we're excited to see the last few sites. Plus it looks like we'll finally have a sunny day.
Thanks for letting me guest blog, Adam!
