London Day 6 / Paris Day 1 - Thursday 6/14

Today was an early morning as we had to get up and go immediately to St. Pancras Rail Station to catch our early morning train to Paris. We did of course leave ourselves enough time to stop by platform 9 3/4 for a photo op.

The train ride went pretty quick and very smoothly with nothing to report except for a large traveling family that delayed us when we tried to get on the train and off the train again. Our first encounter with the language barrier occurred as soon as we got off the train when we needed to get a cab to our apartment. We used a lot of hand signals until we were settled in the car and my mom could get out her Rick Steve's guide book to show the guy but that still only got us so far.

Once we got to the apartment we met our landlord Jean-Pierre who was extremely nice (he brought us fresh bananas, cherries, orange juice, bottled water and a bottle of wine) and thankfully was fluent in English. After settling in we headed to the supermarket for the essentials then headed to the Metro for a trip to the Eiffel Tower. The Metro was gave us a little more trouble than I anticipated because we had to take a weird line but we still got there nonetheless.

Once we got to the Eiffel Tower we were greeted by an hour and a half line to take the elevator to the top but it was definitely worth it. The view from the top was amazing, the city is so different from others because of its uniform look and lack of tall buildings blocking the horizon. It was pretty windy up there though so by the time we headed down we we glad to be out of that cold.

We walked to get dinner right after right around the Tower but the place was expensive and didn't have a great selection but I guess that's what you get when you're in such a tourist dense area.

After dinner we headed back to the apartment and relaxed since we were all tired after a long day.
